Tea party members and other conservative Americans have long suspected a coordinated liberal media bias against them and in favor of Obama. When the media pile on to accuse any conservative of racism, we have suspected coordinated attacks. In addition, it seemed like the media were interested in only praising Obama, and spiking any negative stories about him. The media scoffed at the conservative concern that the media had a leftist bias. But now there is proof. From 2007 through June, 400 hundred liberal journalists, policy "experts" and professors of journalism have swopped ideas on how to defend Obama, and attack any reporter who voiced a negative opinion of Obama, his administration, and his policies. The secret organization named Journolist was started by Washington Post blogger Ezra Klein, and the purpose was evidently to support the Obama candidacy and subsequent administration against any and all criticism. The story was leaded by a member of the Journolist, and already caused embarrassment and resignations.
Journolist member and Washington Independent Spencer Ackerman suggested that the best way to defend Obama from any criticism about his association with radical Rev. Jeremiah Wright, or anything else would be to smear the authors of the story. "Fred Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares...call them racist."
Ackerman further stated: "What is necessary is to raise the cost on the right of going after the left. In other words, find a right winger's *** and smash it through a plate glass window. Take a snapshot of the bleeding mess and send it out on a Christmas card to let the right know it lives in a state of constant fear."
"David Weigel, another Washington Post online journalist, and member of the Journolist cabal said conservative columnist Matt Drudge "should set himself on fire." Weigel recently resigned from the Washington Post over this scandal.
Chris Hayes of the "Nation" urged " those in the ostensible mainstream media" on the Journolist list, to ignore the Rev. Wright story.
The brief, awful story of Journolist, members of the Washington Post, other mainstream media people and professors of journalism who tried to flack for Obama and oppose any story harmful to Obama, is really a story of the death of true journalism. A free press is vital to a free society. The efforts of Journolist members have served to drive a nail in the coffin of our old and formerly trusted media. Now we understand more fully what was behind the idea to smear the Tea Party as racist.
