Jacksonville City Council is just like Congress.

Once more our City Council is ready to RAISE OUR TAXES AGAIN. I thought conservative Republicans were in control, but I am wrong. Council President Bill Gulliford and most of the others want to E-X-T-E-N-D  the special gasoline tax BEFORE it expires. They say revenues are needed for essential city services and of course to fix our roads. SHAME ON THEM ALL. First they should cut spending like on all the WELFARE PROGRAMS. Helping the "poor" is NOT the role of city government. That is the job of churches and charitable organizations, PERIOD.

I am still waiting for a mayoral candidate who will campaign on cutting spending and reducing the size and regulations of city government. Isn't this what the TEA PARTY movement stands for?

Councilman Steven Joost has been the only council member speaking out against the extension. He said there is no hurry to pass the measure, but he also says the current method is unfair and outdated

"The only thing you are doing is creating a 20-year issue that is not fair," Joost said. "All of us that are buying unleaded are paying for the roads while all of those with electric and hybrid and alternative fuels are not paying for the roads, yet we all use them."

The gas tax extension has already pasted three committees and the full council will is expected to pass the extension at Tuesday night's meeting.

Gulliford already has more taxes in mine for later.  He needs to get this out of the way and start working on a YEARLY property tax increase.

Jacksonville is saddled with a Mayor and city council that will put entertainment and fun activities ahead of basic city needs every time.

This government has a warped understanding of what the role of government is.  Providing entertainment and fun activities is NOT the function of government. Neither is it a function of government to be a charitable organization.

Jacksonville has a tax, spend and play government.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
