From My Point of View

I was with a group of friends recently at a meeting and we were discussing our concern about how things are going in the country right now. While I was watching the State of the Union address last month, a friend and I were texting back and forth about the speech. It was good to put into words how unhappy I was about what I was hearing – much better than shouting at the TV! I get so frustrated – and really frightened at times – when I see the downward spiral of this country that I love so much. Where is everybody? Why is there a silent majority? Why is it not a very vocal majority? Why does it seem that so very few are standing up for our Republic, our Constitution? Why are our children growing up knowing so little about the founding and the history of this magnificent nation? Why are we just standing by, surrendering our freedoms, one after the other? So, I’m going to share with you some of my thoughts.….from my point of view.
I don’t know when I’ve been more embarrassed for my country as I have been since Sunday, January 11th. Please note that I said “embarrassed FOR my country,” not “embarrassed BY my country.” I watched as so many world leaders walked arm in arm down the streets of Paris to defy terrorism – along with an estimated 3.7 million people….but our leaders were not there. We were next told that our president didn’t really know about the march. Later we were told, well, they probably really should have gone. You know, “oops, my bad.” Then our Secretary of State went to France and stood on a stage with James Taylor singing….wait for it…“You’ve Got A Friend.” Mr. President and Mr. Secretary, with friends like you, they don’t need enemies.
Several days later, our president sat down for an interview with 3 YouTube celebrities, one of whom is best known for getting in a bathtub filled with milk and cereal, diving under frequently to eat the cereal. With the negative commentary that followed over the next few weeks, I thought that surely there would be better judgment used in public appearances. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Over the past couple of days, I’ve watched the video that our president has made with him making faces at himself in a mirror, stumbling over the word “February,” shooting “air hoops” in the White House, taking selfies with a camera on a long pole, all while trying to push the “benefits” of Obamacare. I don’t know about you, but I don’t need a President Cool (or President Foolish). I need a President Honesty, President Integrity, President Efficient, President Effective, President Constitutional and President Dignified.

The other night, I took my dog outside into the back yard for a little while and I looked up at the clear sky and the beautiful stars. I thought about what’s been going on all over the world lately and felt a cold shiver, and it wasn’t from the weather. What kind of country am I passing on to my children and grandchildren in the future? I remembered a quote from Benjamin Franklin in 1787. A woman was waiting outside the Pennsylvania State House where a group of representatives were meeting to debate and write the US Constitution. When Franklin came out, she asked him what form of government we would have. His answer was “A Republic, if you can keep it.” Well, it’s our turn now. Will we keep it? The Constitution is the foundation upon which this country was built. We need to get a conversation going about what we can all do to get back to the wisdom of living on that foundation. I hope you’ll join in that conversation.

I know you all have heard the message that goes something like this: “I always wondered why somebody didn’t do something, and then I realized I am somebody.” Well, I am somebody….and so are you.

Get money out of politics.

The silent majority has become the dis-interested majority.....

The current ongoing actions and political situations in America can no longer be placed solely on politicians....

"We the People" has to do their part.....and, that requires more that just a percentage of the people voting every couple of years...

King George didn't give up and back down just because he was given some demands by a few representatives speaking for the people.  It took the people standing up, sacrificing, and backing up those demands with action.

The people won their Independence...not the representatives.....

TERM LIMITS is the answer.  We are too ignorant to vote them out and the politicans are too powerful to lose an election.  TERM LIMITS levels the playing field every 2, 4 and 6 years.
