GAO Details Billions in Federal Waste

One of Mike Hogan's campaign planks is to find and eliminate waste and overlap in the city's current spending.  Now the Government Accounting Office (GAO) is giving us an idea of just how out of control the waste is in D.C. and I'm sure that many of us agree the same light must be shown here.  He has done that as Tax Collector while most, if not all other city agencies have not.

 

As members of Congress fight over what to cut in the current federal budget to avert a government shutdown, lawmakers are about to receive a blockbuster report that could provide a roadmap to potentially hundreds of billions of dollars in waste. The nonpartisan General Accounting Office (GAO) is poised to release a report Tuesday that one senator said "will make us all look like jackasses."

"Go study that (report). It will show why we're $14 trillion in debt," said Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. "Anybody that says we don't look like fools up here hasn't read the report."

The report, a summary of which was obtained by Fox News, was mandated by Congress the last time it raised the debt limit in January 2010. In its analysis of federal agencies, the GAO found 33 areas with "overlap and fragmentation."

"Reducing or eliminating duplication, overlap, or fragmentation could potentially save billions of taxpayer dollars annually and help agencies provide more efficient and effective services," the report says. In one example, the report found that if the Defense Department were to make "broader restructuring" of its "military health care system" it "could result in annual savings of up to $460 million."

It is so good to see so many like minded people. I have many family members, friends and neighbors who are also fiscal conservative and are fed up with the massive spending of our government and the abuse of our constitutions, laws on all levels.

 

The thing that i dislike the most is the deceit and lies from candidates when they run. Most of them unless they live in very progressive liberal, will sell themselves as conservatives. Why can't they tell the truth like this young woman from Texas that testified in Congress about why our 2nd amendment is so important, she is direct, sticking to the truth and facts, while anti-gun Congressional representatives squirm in their seats, i admire her strength and courage in this video:

With Reid, Roma i think that he also had the union backing in Nevada, a very union state with the SEIU. Here is a video i posted on anther blog of him talking about us paying our taxes voluntary, he makes no sense at all:

This man is clearly out of touch with reality. It is hard to believe that he is one of the most powerful people in Congress running our government.

In addition to "overlap and fragmentation" departments that do not add value (Department of Education for example) and expenditures for causes that are not the responsibility of the Federal Government should be defunded and eliminated.
