DNC Platform: We Want World Class Education. Translation: More Union Money & Power

05 September 2012

By Bill Korach www.thereportcard.org The Democratic Party has long made the assertion that they are the party of education and teachers. It is a part of their long-standing claim that they are the party that “cares,” and even the party that owns the moral high ground. However, there is ample proof that the Democratic [...]

Doing away with the DoEd is on the agenda for several candidates and I would agree.. get the FEDS out of the schools and give it back to the localities.

Lizzie, How would closing the DoE improve education?

Yes, the DOE has caused great harm. I have interviewed a number of political candidates who SAY they would shut it down. But it would take a great act of political courage and support of the House, Senat and President. For America's future, I hope they put their money where their mouth is.

CLOSE the Dept of Education - it would be the single greatest action which would improve education in this country.

Here's some reality about spending on education and results, Maybe we need to cut the Dept of Education.

Federal Spending on Education up 375% Learning Scores Down!

24 July 2012

In an exclusive interview with Cato Institute’s Andrew Coulson, I asked how government spending could skyrocket as shown by the chart, while performance scores have declined over the same period of time. How is it that schools can afford to hire lunch inspectors to snoop in kids lunch bags as they did earlier this week, [...]www.thereportcard.org

The greatest growth public education spending has taken place in administration. That iws a great place to start. And Lizzie an average salary of $37000 is hardly breaking the bank for teachers.

So Lizzie the highest paid guy makes 5% of the average. The US has the highest wage iinequality of any modern country in the world. We are on par with Angola. Those unions suck if that is all they are able to accomplish. And we aren't talking private interests, these are publically traded companies.

Wiliam, exactly.  Teachers have fought every step to have accountability for their performance and the unions have killed the public schools.  It is federal and state subsidized babysitting at this point. The democrats will do everything in their power to stop charter schools and PARENT CHOICE.

Also, a few other union boss salaries (and I notice how Amanda quoted the lowest one.. typical): "Salaries for the 10 largest unions’ bosses range from $173,000 for the United  Auto Workers’ Bob King to $618,000 for Terence O’Sullivan, the president of the  Laborers’ International Union of North America. AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka  makes about $283,000 per year. Gerald McEntee, the president of the American  Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), makes $480,000."

Again we see the wealth evny and hatred toward successful business with the statement of the problem being the pay of high level execs...  Some just want to see all businesses in America disappear so the government can be in power..

Randy Weingarten of the UFT makes $495,000/ yr. But that is not the point. The teacher's unions have been enemies of education, and they own the Democrats. Education spending has skyrocketed over the past 30 years while scores have dropped. Under union rules, raises & benefits are based on seniority, not performance. Unions have a chokehold on schools. Steve Jobs said that school reform is impossible unless unions are broken.

President of UAW makes $173,000 a year. So that is about 1.25% of what an average CEO in the S&P 500 makes. So maybe the problem is not the pay of line workers but high level execs.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
