ObamaCare and Fannie and Freddie are tools the Democrats are using to enact social justice through the redistribution of wealth. They seize money from the rich and hand it over to the poor through health care coverage and home mortgages.
It appears that the Democrats are now trying to enact political justice by what amounts to the redistribution of votes. You maybe asking how one redistributes votes. By disenfranchising legal voters and enfranchising illegal voters. And this is exactly what Eric Holder’s Justice Department is doing. From The Washington Times‘ July 28th editorial:
John Cornyn co-authored a 2009 law mandating that states mail absentee ballots to military voters at least 45 days before the election. Yet, as former Justice Department lawyer Eric Eversole first reported in The Washington Times last week, the department seems to be encouraging states to apply for waivers so they won’t have to follow that law. More than 17,000 Americans serving overseas were denied the vote in 2008 – but, presumably because military personnel are thought to lean conservative, the liberal Obama administration is in no hurry to correct the situation.
The Justice Department is so unenthusiastic about military voting that its website still lists the old requirement for a shorter 30-day military voting window, rather than the current law mandating 45 days. On the other hand, the Justice Department has no legislative mandate whatsoever to involve itself with helping felons to vote, but its website devotes a large section – 2,314 words – to advising felons how to regain voting privileges.
As confirmed by The Washington Times last week, Justice Department official Rebecca Wertz told a Feb. 1 conference of the National Association of Secretaries of State that the new law’s requirements are somehow open to interpretation. On July 28, an attendee at that conference – heretofore uninterviewed – told The Washington Times that Ms. Wertz’s message was “totally undermining” the law. The earlier reports actually underplayed the effect of Ms. Wertz’s comments. “It was even more pronounced at the meeting,” said the source. “She undermined [the law] right in front of everybody. When I heard what she was saying, I thought: ‘You’ve got to be kidding!’ … It was a clear reversal of roles for Justice to no longer be enforcing the law.”
Eric Holder’s DOJ is undermining the law regarding military votes for the purpose of making it as difficult as possible for our military men and women to vote. At the same time it is working overtime to help felons get their voting rights back.
Quin Hillyer at The American Spectator is equally outraged:
What the editorial doesn’t describe is the content of those 2,314 words. It’s amazing. The time and effort required to compile all the information, and the obvious priority the Obamites made it, really show the highly politicized cast of mind of this administration. The section includes a state-by-state list of where felons can call or write in order to try to get their voting privileges back. Yet, I repeat, this should be NO business of the Justice Department. It has no statutory or constitutional role to play in helping felons regain voting privileges. But it DOES have a statutory requirement to help DoD ensure voting rights for the military, yet it can’t even be bothered, with an entire year to do it, to post even a simple link to the new law requiring that ballots be mailed to military personnel 45 days before an election.
The fact of the matter is felons vote for Democrats. John Fund noted this trend in a July 14th WSJ article about Al Franken’s felonious votes (emphasis mine):
Academic work by Jeff Manza and Marcus Britton of Northwestern University and Christopher Uggen of the University of Minnesota has shown that a large majority of felons routinely vote Democratic. The two academics estimated that Bill Clinton pulled 86% of the felon vote in 1992 and 93% in 1996. Statistician John Lott’s own work in Washington State found that felons were 37% more likely to be registered Democrats even when accounting for race, gender, education level, religious habits, employment, age, and county of residence.
In the Democrat mind, felons are actually victims of the rich, having been created by poverty, not by their own actions and members of the military are imperialist war mongers who get joy out of oppressing and terrorizing innocent people in other nations. To deny the members of the US military their right to vote while granting it to felons is, to Democrats, political justice. It’s the redistribution of votes much like the redistribution of wealth. And it’s all done for the purpose of electing Democrats in perpetuity.
