Be fore warned, this is a not for profit, but it is not part of the federal government nor is it government sponsored.  Quote from a comment on the article:  While they have a few "testimonials" that travel with them, there are four years of horror stories from every town they visit".  Word of warning:  Be wary if you plan to use their services or talk to them about refinance as apparently not everyone has something glowing to say about thier experience.

Mortgage relief event helps  Jacksonville homeowners hold on to 'American Dream'

Franklin Thomas said he worried steadily about being thrown out  of the home on Jacksonville’s Northside, where he has lived since 1990.

“Every night, you are wondering if someone was going to come to  the door,” he said Sunday, standing inside the Prime Osborn Convention  Center.

But seven hours after he and Deborah Thomas arrived at an event  aimed at helping them, they had a deal with Bank of America to lower the  mortgage payment almost $500 a month, from more than $1,300.
