Parents, students, educators and nonprofit leaders developed a vast wish list of traits Monday for Duval County Public Schools' future leader during the second of three community meetings focused on the district's superintendent search.
About 40 people attended the meeting for the group the School Board calls the envisioning committee. It was held at the Schultz Center for Teaching Leadership.
One of the traits they want to see in the next superintendent is a concrete track-record of improving urban school districts. Other desired traits identified Monday included valuing diversity, character, strong communication skills and the ability to inspire.
The School Board will consider the group's input as it goes through the process of selecting a new superintendent.
Mandarin physics teacher Thad Boggs applauded the board for seeking the community's thoughts.
"I think it's impressive that the board is reaching out to all of the stakeholders and asking their opinion," Boggs said.
