TU: Duval courthouse cuts draw critics' fire

Trim away Mayor Brown...........this behemoth has already cost way more money than it ever should have been allowed to! Any one out there think the city should continue plowing money into our extravagant new court house?????  We can only hope that future projects will not also have a budgeted cost of $350 MILLION.

The chief financial officer says plans for trimming spending are not finalized yet.

A plan to trim spending for the new Duval County Courthouse drew complaints Monday from court officials and City Council members who argued Mayor Alvin Brown’s administration has pushed ahead without considering other opinions.

The city’s chief financial officer, Ronnie Belton, tried to assure critics that the potential $4.5 million reduction is not finalized, but a member of a council committee on the courthouse produced paperwork signed last week that seemed to order specific cuts.

“We’ve been working in good faith,” said Councilwoman Denise Lee. “It’s just not right.”

State Attorney Angela Corey and Chief Circuit Judge Donald Moran repeated concerns about specific cuts that had been broached in January and said they had been frustrated by difficulty talking with people planning the courthouse.

The building is scheduled to open in May.

“There’s been a total lack of communication,” Moran told the committee, saying he had only that day learned about some elements of the planned cuts.

This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
