Times Union: Jacksonville mayor's Charlotte agenda: Mayor's Conference, little bit of DNC

The timing on this trip is just TOO convenient being their for the empty seats speech tonight.  If the city is paying for this, they shouldn't be as this was a free ride to go to the DNC period.  So much for the mayor's promise not to turn the office of the mayor into a politcal entity by supporting candidates.  Shame on him for using this venue to promote a candidate and one would hope he isn't using any taxpayer money for this all too conveniently planned trip.  How do you feel about it????

Mayor Alvin Brown will return from Charlotte, N.C., Wednesday morning, after spending just over three days in the city that’s hosting the Democratic National Convention.

Brown, a member of the convention's credentialing committee, used frequent flyer miles for the trip, his office said Tuesday. He also paid for his own room and meals.

The mayor arrived Sunday evening and attended a meeting of the credentialing committee. Tuesday morning, he stopped by the convention venue to pick up credentials.

Brown's main reason for traveling up north was to attend meetings put on by the U.S. Conference of Mayors in conjunction with the convention. Similar events were held during the Republican National Convention in Tampa; Brown had announced plans to attend those events, but in the end was not able to do so, spokesman David DeCamp said.

Actually Amanda, there was an article that said he was speaking like a lawyer defending a guilty client and giving it his best. He never mentioned the future and what it would hold and made some excuses for all the rest that happened in the last 4 years to make Obama seem less guilty. He is a charmer, and if he wasn't almost as bad as Obama for ideology, I could actully like him in spite of his nasty little habit of sleeping around.

No, I never said Republicans had to lie to get elected............democrats do have to lie, because if they told you the truth of what they plan to do, no one would vote for them or not many at least. The problem with Clinton's speech last night is he said no one could have fixed the mess and no one had ever been able to................Reagon fixed the mess, and Billy only did what he did with a gun to his head and lots of help from Gingrich who would not take no for an answer (and Clinton, unlike Obama, moved to the center and saved his own fanny). Billy can claim credit but anyone who was around know who the brains were. I do agree with you though; Clinton can make a lie the truth and the truth a lie. He is truly accomplished at what he does and as you recall, he almost pulled off the Monica thing..........except she kept the dress (that was his downfall).

Patricia you mentioned in another post that republicans had to lie before the elections to get elected. That is why it was okay to lie. Well I willtell you one thing, You may not like what William Jefferson Clinton says from the podium, but nobody brings it like that man. He is a maestro. There is no one in the world who can distill the elements of an argument any better, and then bring it home. No matter what side you fall on, that dude brings it. Only half that speech was written, the rest was a riff. To run his teleprompter must be like following a chicken on an electric grid.

Bravo. Reagan was great, but Clinton is supreme.

I rather thought you might be spoofing me!  It is totally an outrage what dems do to say the least!

Patricia.. my comment, and especially "sure he paid" was 100% sarcasm! And yes, the president has stuck the tax payer with much of his campaign bill... Keep up your good work..

Helen, :) I don't have quite the faith you do that Brown paid for it himself since the man in our white house has used tax payer money for his campaign a number of times.  Bad enough we have to pay to protect him while he is out there, but when we foot the whole bill, it is a bit much!

Perhaps Mayor Brown was discussing how things are going with the federally funded "Teach for America" program in the wonderful and terrific Jacksonville school systems with all the other decaying city majors from Detroit, Philly, Memphis, etc... and sure he paid for everything himself...

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
