The UnConstitutional National Popular Vote Plan: Preserving the Electoral College

Join Heritage Foundation for an online event this coming Friday, October 28th at noon.  Free to all.

Hosted By Edwin Meese III

The National Popular Vote Plan is an initiative to effectively abolish the Electoral College without a constitutional amendment. A number of state legislatures have already adopted an agreement in which participating states would allocate their electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote, rather than the winner of the popular vote in their state. The agreement would go into effect when states with a total of more than the 270 electoral votes (the number required to win a presidential election) have adopted the agreement.

Is this agreement an interstate compact that requires the approval of Congress? Is it an attempt to avoid having to pass a constitutional amendment to get rid of the Electoral College? What were the original purposes of the Electoral College and are they still relevant today? What effect would such a system of electing the president have on our election process?

Discussing this issue will be the director of constitutional studies at the Freedom Foundation, as well as a former member of the Federal Election Commission and Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Justice Department. It will be hosted by Edwin Meese III, former Attorney General of the United States.

This is an example of why citizens need to get involved at local levels of govt., Tea Party groups are gaining power at local, state levels preventing legislatures from being influenced by national progressive agenda.  Control the party at the state level, then you can control the party on the national level and stop attempts to weaken Constitutional govt. of the people.  Tea Party needs to continue it's mission throughout the U.S.--voting progressives and RINO's out of office, stand up for Constitution.  If DC caught Obumbler redhanded giving national secrets to enemies, there's no more than a dozen Senators and less than half of the House who'd have the backbone to impeach him there so politically correct and afraid of minorities, special interests.  It's a shame and national disgrace to Founding Fathers and patriots who died in our previous 234 years protecting and defending this country, for the corrupt dealings and influence over our govt, society, schools that leftwing radicals like George Soros now have.

Sorry, but to me this seems to be giving up the voting State Citizens right to have their State votes to the Electoral College winner of the popular vote in our State, which is as it should be. This allows our State votes to count rather than being swept away by the popular vote of people outside our State.  I would be against this initiative.

Heaven helps preserve our Constitution! Do all you can, read, vote, discuss, participate, gather support. We can not allow these people to abrogate our rights and our children's rights. We must stop them without equivocation. They will not rest until all of our liberties have been taken from us. We must not rest until everyone understands our freedom is on the line here!

Just found out about this on FB today. I sent it in a message to you Billie. It says that this has been passed in both houses in Florida. If this is so, what does that mean? Why haven't we seen or heard of this before now? This is most definitely a ploy to circumvent Congress approval to achieve their goal - re-election of Barack Obama. He needs Florida to win 2012.

This way we can just get ACORN (or whatever they call themselves now) to just "appoint" our government. I hope the rest of the TEA parties around the country are on this atrocity in in the making. WE ALL need to forward this story to everybody in our state government as well as everybody in our email list as well as those in other states.

That's what I am doing NOW.

Just another way to fix elections.  Pray most of the states have govenors who are smarter than this.  Basically, they are taking the vote away from their own people by just saying representatives can vote for someone else other than who the folks in the state voted for!  NOT RIGHT.

The lefty libtards never quit. Another attempt to sidestep the constitutional process by those who know they can't get support needed for a legal amendment.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
