The Obama National Mediation Board changed the Railway Labor Act’s voting rules to allow a union to organize workers by a mere majority of votes cast, rather than a majority of all workers at a business. This would allow unions to gain representation after having only a minority of the workers it seeks to represent vote in favor of it. The Board overturned decades of precedent; the previous interpretation of the rule dated back to 1934. Sen. Johnny Isakson’s resolution (S. J. Res. 30) seeks to bring lawmaking back where it belongs: Congress. This is yet another of many favors that the Obama Administration is giving to Big Labor.
