Patriot Action Network: DCCC Spends Whopping $483,500 in Last Ditch Effort to Defend Weiner’s Seat

Back in June we posted information about Anthony Weiner’s Congressional District in New York. At the time Weiner was still defending himself, pushing the narrative that he had been hacked and had not sent inappropriate images to random women online.

On June 6th I posted this.

NY9 used to be VERY solid in the Democrat realm. But things have changed in recent years. In 2000 Al Gore picked up some two thirds of the vote. But then Barack Obama got only 55% of the vote in 2008. The district consists of parts of Queens and Brooklyn.

In 2008 Anthony Weiner pulled a commanding 92% of the vote. In 2010, however, he only managed to grab 59%.

Clearly Democrats are losing their edge in the district and without Weiner’s name on the ballot Republicans could have a fighting chance at grabbing the seat. That is, if they can find a solid candidate and run a really good campaign.

Fast forward to today and the polls are showing the Republican with an upper hand.

The survey finds Republican Bob Turner leading Democrat David Weprin by 4 points (Turner 44.6%/Weprin 40.4%/Hoeppner 3.2%/undecided 11.8%). Ballot intensity benefits Turner with 35.8% of the respondents definitely voting for Turner while only 28.3% of respondents definitely voting for Weprin.

Democrats have a 133,000 voter edge over Republicans in the district. Yet, the DCCC is running to the district with almost half a million to try and salvage the seat.

I still suspect the Dems “might” be able to pull off a win, but the fact that it’s this close speaks volumes about the toxicity Obama’s agenda brings to even dark blue districts. A win would be gravy for a GOP looking for momentum going into 2012.
