Matt Schellenberg (REP), 8,886 votes, 53.00%

Jack Webb (REP), 7,881 votes, 47.00%

 

"Challenger Matt Schellenberg stunned Jacksonville -- and even himself a little -- by claiming the District 6 from council president Jack Webb.

"I'm so excited I can't think," he said moments after results showed he had won the district covering Mandarin and Beauclerc.

The business owner attributed the victory to his message resonating with voters' demand for financial discipline and accountability at City Hall.

"They are just appalled by the way the city is spending money [and has] increased taxes and fees," Schellenberg said.

Webb, a fellow Republican, sounded upbeat, explaining his defeat partly to out-of-town money used to distribute negative ads against him. Another part was being part of a city leadership team that had difficult decisions to make in tough economic times.

"Apparently I made some decisions that did not resonate well with voters in light of the Tea Party situation being what it is," said Webb, 48...."

This is the very bright light in an otherwise not so great election cycle!  It shows that an engaged electorate can make a needed change, against all odds, big cash, and curried favors.  While the Tiny Union and lame stream media may get to crow about crushing the Tea Party, focused effort, committed effort can and will win the day.  Note to old school Republicans:  Times are changing, the enemy knows it, and you better wake up and learn from this cycle.
