Jacksonville councilman Redman wants to move trick-or-treating to Oct. 30

Death, Taxes & Politics

Jacksonville City Councilman Don Redman says he would rather see children trick-or-treating on Saturday, Oct. 30, instead of on the actual date of Halloween, Oct. 31.

He has filed a resolution bill with the City Council that, if approved, would give non-binding recommendations to the citizens of Jacksonville, the Beaches and Baldwin to recognize All Hallows' Eve a day earlier.

Redman says he wants Duval County to follow in the footsteps of Baker County, whose elected leaders passed a similar measure this month. Citizens are starting to ask for it, he said.

"I've had a lot of requests, especially people in my church and people who go to church on Sunday who wanted it changed," Redman said.

Redman is a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville.

Because the bill won't officially be filed until Tuesday's council meeting, the council will have to take it up as an emergency. (The normal process takes about a month.) Council President Jack Webb said he is willing to let debate occur, but he's not sure Redman's idea is a good one.

Saturday is the Florida-Georgia game, Webb points out.

"I think we have to seriously consider the ramifications of it," he said.

So what do you think? Should Halloween be celebrated on Saturday or Sunday this year?

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
