Are we a Christian Nation?

At a Tea Party Rally recently not one but several speakers made the statement that “America is a Christian Nation”. And in keeping with the Christian faith Jesus Christ was mentioned several times as being the savior.

I know there are a lot of Christians that will find no fault in that and some will take offense to what I am going to say because I disagree that America is a Christian Nation. No doubt the Christian Faith is a positive and that Jesus is a tremendous example to follow. But the fact remains there is no official religion of this nation and thank God and the Founding Fathers for the First Amendment.

If anyone leads you to believe this nation was founded on the Christian Faith they are misleading you. There is no doubt the Christian Faith was a great influence on our nation and every Founding Father to a man was a believer in the Supreme Father, but a Christian Nation was never their goal.

Wisdom is the benefit of experience and knowing the loss of freedom that came from oppressive religious belief, and those that would have you believe as they do or be outcast. The Founding Fathers restricted even the Christian Faith as they did government from being one in the same.

I have a deep respect for the rights of others to believe as they wish and in keeping with the teachings of the Bible and Christ hope that people will know my faith by my example not my words. Christ never claimed worldly nations as his own and from my observations of his actions and teachings never intended anyone to bow down to him. He certainly didn’t intend his name to be used to cause others to bow down as well.

The principals and the moral teachings of Christ certainly helped form our nation but as with our Founding Fathers, Jesus always gave the praise to his father.

No we are not a Christian Nation, but we are a nation founded on the principals of morality and freedom endowed upon us by our Creator however you wish to believe.

Whether you are Jewish, Deist, Christian, Muslim or even Atheist you are not excluded in our nation and not one can claim this nation is anything but free.

I suggest that those who would make Christianity the official religion of the United States of America should research the history of Europe in the 17th century. Research the “Inquisition”. Find out why the Calvinist left the Netherlands in the 19th century to settle in Iowa, Michigan and other sites within the United States of America. We must stay focused. Do not let our religious beliefs detract us from the goal of maintaining a country where all can freely practice their religion.
If we can get our elected officials to legislate and govern for the sustainability of our country and leave the spiritual development and enrichment of our citizens to religious leaders our country will be better.

This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
