Dear Friends,

Facebook President Obama asked Americans to contact members of Congress and ask them to reach a fair resolution of the looming government default.

He rightly noted that both political parties bear some responsibility for running up the federal debt – so it’s up to both to end this stalemate. Since the President's speech I've heard from thousands and thousands of folks who responded to his call. I also sensed growing support in Congress to avert a first-ever government default early next week. Thus I’m optimistic about quick passage of some $2.7 trillion in savings and spending cuts – cuts that wouldn’t hurt Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security.

Such a solution strikes me as a fair compromise – and, exactly the kind of thing I think we need right now.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Now, let me get this cleared up: I am a Constitutionalist Democrat and a member of the Tea Party...does that mean I am still a DemoRat? I have enough sense to vote for what the man stands for rather than voting a party line.

It is actually my hope that civility MAY (now I'm believing in the Easter Bunny) be restored to our political discourse.  Besides, until the Progressives took over the Democratic Party, it was in many was "libertarian with a generous pocket," a la John Locke. Alas, Edmund Burke won that argument in the end, but still, as I have told many, the Tea Party has many ideologies, but only among American Patriots.  I hope I'm not wrong.

Replacing and outing DemoRats is very important; but more so the removal of the RINOs.  They are the ones that "sound" like a conservative, but vote with the DemoRats.

I asked one of the potomac creatures' staff and the answer I received was; they don't necessarily "read", but do count the "jist", subject; for or against.  I believe that it is a better system than random reading, depending on "luck".  This is a good time for vetting out our "T-Party" enemies.  Memory.

Well let's just wait and see how he votes. I know where I'm putting my bet.

I would like to think he reads some of what we write{robert b steup}. we can not just give up.

what will become of us if we throw in the towel now ? I would like to thank everyone that is trying to fight for us. Why can't the white house work with the money they get. Why do they need more and we the people get less every day. If the states have to balance their books and stay within a budget so should the white house. After all we pay their salaries and put them in place. I  thought government was for the people by the people. we need to get back to that or kick them out of office. It seems like we the people have lost our voice.

look at all the corruption in the government. We the people need to say we will not put up with it any more.

Obama is only as strong as the people around him. we do not need any more taxes.I never thought i would see the day that our government has let us down like what i am seeing today. just look at the TV. I know we can not believe half of whats on the TV. seems like the good old day are a thing of he past. thank you and please don't give up on us Bill.

No sir, I am not delusional, I don't believe in fairy tales and I don't believe that he will read my latter personally! I do believe that the number of yeas and nays will be taken in his office and he may in fact go ahead and vote his party line. However, I know that "we the people" are making a difference!

How do I know, you may ask??

Because he is asking for our reply for the first time that I can recall. If that is not proof enough, just turn on the news and listen to the way that the MSM is going after us, "the Tea Party"! They have loosed their lapdogs sir because they are scared of US!

Many of us here have made it easy for you sir, just copy and paste one of these fine letters into an email and sign it. Might take you 30 seconds to do. Best case, your email will be counted in the YEA side. Worst case, your email, as you suggest, will not be read. In that case, 30 seconds is not much time to spend.

Now is not the time for Patriots to hide behind a tree, we may be forced to later!

No, I do not believe these letters are read.  That does not, however, remove from me the burden and civic responsibility to reply to the requests.  What I do intend to do during one of the re-election townhalls or debates, is to hopefully be allowed to address the Senator with my stack of unanswered, ignored and unread communications held high in my hand as I ask the question, "And how, sir, did you represent me?"

@Robert B. Steup - Most of us likely have your similar feelings, however, Billie "asked" us to reply and since I trust her then I spent a couple minutes to reply rather than spending that same time complaining.  Go Tea Party!

Do any of you really believe that Nelson actually reads any of your replies? I'm sure that some staffer with a six figure annual salary tallies up the positive and negative replies. Then Nelson goes ahead and votes the party line.

RYAN NICHOLS - Hardened Criminal?? Seriously??

If you're not already aware. This is what's going on in DC while dangerous criminals are allowed back out on the streets.  It's horrifying that this is happening to our citizens and veterans for protesting the hijacking of our election process. This is still happening! They are STILL being tortured and treated like full on terrorists.

You may not be aware of the typical things they're forced to go through...…
