Stop College Tuition Subsidies for Illegal Aliens

 

The Senate Judiciary Committee will likely hear SB1400 next Tuesday, April 1, 2014.   

HB851 (companion to SB1400) passed the House 81/33.  SB1400 passed the Senate Education Committee Hearing 5/4.  SB1400 has three more hearings before going to the full Senate.  We can and must stop in one of the three Senate Committee hearings.  The Judiciary Committee Hearing will be the second of four Senate Committee hearings. 

 

The following elected officials need to hear your opposition to SB1400, College Tuition Subsidy for Illegal Aliens.

 

Talking Points:

• An unknown number of legal students will be displaced from college by illegal alien students.      
  
   
• The Florida Legislature not only did not estimate the number of displaced legal students they failed to estimate of the fiscal cost.    
  
   
• The wording of the bill is deceitful in order to circumvent the federal prohibition against offering reduced rates to a certain group without offering the reduced rates to all citizens of USA.  The deceitful working uses terminology of "tuition waivers" rather than "in-state tuition rate."    
  
   
• This bill seems to be a likely futile effort by Republican Leadership to bolster the sagging poll numbers of Gov. Rick Scott.    
  
   
• This is not just a bad deal, it is pandering by an outright giveaway of college slots.  Remember how Republican Leadership erected every possible blockade when citizens demanded Florida enact E-Verify.  Remember too how the Obama Administration has all but abandoned immigration enforcement.  Legal students and citizens don't get any enforcement in return.  They lose THEIR DREAMS.
