PLEASE WEIGH IN! REVIVED VOUCHER BILL HAS OPPORTUNITY FOR COMMON CORE TEST OPT OUT & DANGERS FOR PRIVATE SCHOOLS

As reported in out last email, the Tax Credit Scholarship (Voucher) bill has been revived in the Senate. As passed out of the Appropriations Committee last week, it was less dangerous to private school autonomy than the desired plan of Senator Gaetz to impose the Common Core tests on private schools. Although, as outlined in our analysis, we still have concerns. Overall, we would prefer this bill not pass, but because some bill in this area is likely to happen, we must deal with it as it progresses.

ACTION ITEMS:

There is a major opportunity as it comes to the Senate floor TODAY, and there are proposed amendments and other issues that need to be dealt with. PLEASE contact the leadership and your own senator IMMEDIATELY!

PLEASE URGE YOUR SENATOR TO SUPPORT THE BULLARD 615284 AMENDMENT.

1) Public School Student Testing Choice - Senator Dwight Bullard (D-Cutler Bray) has filed an amendment to allow public school students to choose one of the nationally norm-referenced tests that private school students take instead of the awful Common Core tests by AIR. This is about the only anti-Common Core legislation that could possibly pass this year

PLEASE URGE YOUR SENATOR TO OPPOSE THE MONTFORD 600876 AMENDMENT!

2) Imposing Common Core Tests on Private Schools - Senator Bill Montford (D-Tallahassee) has filed an amendment to require private school voucher students to take the AIR Common Core tests, which would impose the Common Core standards on private schools.

PLEASE URGE YOUR SENATORS TO NOT ACCEPT ANY LANGUAGE IN AMENDMENTS OR FROM THE HOUSE THAT WOULD PROMOTE COMMON CORE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR PRIVATE SCHOOL TEACHERS

3) Common Core Professional Development for Private School Teachers - The House voucher bill HB 7167 contains language that will use voucher money from the scholarship funding organizations (SFOs) for professional development. This is another back door way of imposing Common Core on private schools.
