SUMMARY:Wreaths Accross America - 2016
DESCRIPTION:Wreaths Across America at the Jacksonville National Cemete
ry This year’s wreath laying program will take place on\nSaturday, 1
7 Dec 2016 at 11:45am Volunteers for wreath laying usually arrive by 8
am\n“Say Their Names” is National Wreaths Across America Day Theme
for 2016\nNo one ever wants to be forgotten and when someone wears a
military service uniform for this great nation they never should be.\n
Prisoners of war have told stories of how men would use whatever means
possible to etch their names into the walls of their cell as a sign,
to whoever might follow or discover the artifact, that they lived and
were there at one point in history.\nThe Wreaths Across America organi
zation and its supporters understand the value of remembering our fall
en, honoring those who currently serve and the importance of teaching
our youngsters the meaning of their sacrifices in the name of freedom.
\nLast December, during the escort to Arlington National Cemetery, Wre
aths Across America Executive Director Karen Worcester stated, “a pe
rson dies twice; the first time when they stop breathing and a second
time when someone mentions their name for the last time.”\nWreaths A
cross America’s founder, Morrill Worcester, has always asked volunte
ers who place veterans remembrance wreaths on the headstones of our fa
llen heroes to take a moment to read the name aloud.\nIn keeping with
that request, the theme for National Wreaths Across America Day, Satur
day December 17, 2016 is “Say Their Names.”\nIn interview after in
terview parents who have lost a son or daughter in service say that th
eir greatest fear is that their child “will be forgotten.”\n2016 r
epresents the 25th year the Worcester family, and others throughout th
e nation and overseas, have joined in patriotism and pride to pay resp
ect to our hometown military heroes.\nWe look forward to strengthening
our bond with our dedicated volunteers as we work toward National Wre
aths Across America Day, December 17th. A day when we can join our voi
ces together once again to “Say Their Names.”\nThis will be our ei
ghth year participating in the Wreaths Across America program. Our fir
st year we placed 1100 wreaths upon the hallowed grounds at the Jackso
nville National Cemetery. For 2016 we are anticipating the need of 820
0 wreaths to reach our goal of a remembrance wreath for every headston
